Held annually in October, Flip the Script is a hybrid nine-day film festival celebrating Queer stories from 2SLGBTQIA+ filmmakers all over the globe!

The 7th Annual Flip the Script Queer Film Festival will take place October 1–11, 2026! We will continue to present a hybrid festival with in-person screenings at FilmNorth in the Bill Pohlad Cinema, and extended virtual access through our Virtual Cinema hosted on Eventive.

Send us your short films and feature films that subvert the norm of Queer representation! Documentary, Narrative, Experimental, Animation – we want to see them all!

We define “Queer films”, in this context, as projects that include characters, storylines, ideas that subvert the norm of Queer representation, and/or that are directed, produced, or written by at least one member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.


Submissions Categories

Narrative Genre Feature Films
Fiction feature films with runtime of 50–120 minutes. Comedies. Horror. Westerns. Romance. Thrillers. Musicals. Science Fiction. Drama. Feature films with a strong connection to a traditional genre, or that Flip the Script to turn that genre upside down.

Documentary Feature Films
Non-Fiction feature films that are a runtime of 50–120 minutes in length.

Animation Feature Films
Animated feature films with runtime of 50–120 minutes. Short films that utilize animation techniques, including but not limited to: traditional drawing, stop-motion, or computer animation to create non-live-action films. ***AI generated projects will NOT be accepted***

Narrative Genre Short Films
Fiction short films with runtime of 30 minutes or less. Comedies. Horror. Westerns. Romance. Thrillers. Musicals. Science Fiction. Drama. Short films with a strong connection to a traditional genre, or that Flip the Script to that genre upside down.

Named in honor of Michael Alonga, aka Daphne, a trailblazing elder whose letters were central to retelling the hidden history of the pre-Stonewall drag scene as captured in the superb documentary P.S. Burn This Letter Please.

The Daphnes were first sponsored by WE WERE THERE, INC, a registered 501(c)(3), whose mission is the preservation and dissemination of LGBTQ+ history through multi-platform storytelling, with the goal of educating and empowering LGBTQ+ youth.
